‘One Jurisdiction’s Response to Diminishing Membership’

All masonic jurisdictions, certainly those in the English-speaking world, have seen membership numbers decline since the mid-1950s. In British Columbia, membership peaked in 1962 and has steadily decreased to sixteen percent of what it once was during a period when the province’s population has increased by 325%. This Installation Paper will review this sixty-year period, 1962-2022, looking at how the jurisdiction’s members and leaders responded to this decline, outlining the steps they took to check this decline, and perhaps offering some insight into the future of this and other jurisdictions.
